7 Simple Steps to your Best Sleep

I struggle with sleep. In fact if I told you what time it is right now you might be appalled that I am up this late. But I do my best work at night when everyone else gets to bed and I don’t have anything to be up early for so my schedule is probably different than most. And I am okay with that (usually).

When it is finally “time for bed” I have found that having a routine is key to sending your body the message it is time for a good night's rest.

  1. Wash your face. Gals we cannot skip a night. Washing off the stress of the day (not to mention the dirt of the day) and taking care of your skin is a must.

  2. Nighttime Moisturizer. Again gals - it is your face. Take care of your skin. Your future self will thank you.

  3. Brush your teeth. Obviously.

  4. PJs - and I am learning that lots of people are not into “bedtime” clothes. But getting into your favorite comfy night time tee or silky nighty is something you should be looking forward to at the end of the day.

  5. Foot soak - I am betting this one is going to be the most revolutionary to you and the most rewarding as well. In a small tub or basin (available in the same aisle you get dish drying racks) fill yourself a nice HOT foot bath. Add a handful of Epsom salts. Take 5 minutes to just sit and let your feet enjoy. There are so many benefits to Epsom salt soaks. I promise if you give it a try for just 3 nights you will be hooked! #bestsleepever #doitanyway

  6. During the foot soak time you can:

  • Read a book for a few minutes

  • Reflect on your day

  • Run over the list of things you have to accomplish tomorrow - NOT. Just kidding. Do not take this time for making lists. That was step #1. It is time to wind down. But if you are a list maker that is okay. Take this time to reflect on all that you did accomplish today. Take a few minutes to be proud of yourself.

  • Screen time is not your best-case scenario but let’s be honest we all do it. So if you must check your phone one more time tonight then go ahead and do it now. *Be sure to set your alarm. *Oh and visit 522gals on Facebook one more time ;)

#7- Last step before climbing under the covers. Lotion up! Love that skin gals! Take the time to really message some good lotion onto your skin. There is some research that shows this is good for cellulite! It is definitely good for anti-aging. And it is an excellent way to send your body the signal - it is time for rest.

*Side Note - I highly recommend using a natural lotion. This stuff absorbs in your skin. I used to get sick frequently. And I love the beautiful scents I can get at a popular retail store. However, I accepted a challenge to use only natural lotions for one month and see if I felt better. That was 4 months ago and I haven’t been sick since! I can’t vouch for the science behind it. I can only tell you my experience. And gals I want you healthy, happy and well too! So give it a try.

Now, as you find a comfortable position in bed, close your eyes and thank God for everything. Ask Him to help you get some sleep and tomorrow you will wake up amazed at how good you feel!

Take the one week challenge! Commit to giving this a try for 7 days. Even if you are doubtful of the outcome, even if you don’t think it will work, even if you don’t feel like it. Come on - it is worth a shot! Do it anyway! Chances are you will be getting the best rest you have gotten in a long time.
