A Prayer of Declaration: Holding Onto God’s Promises (Genesis 32:12)

This week on Girl, Read Your Bible, we’re taking a closer look at a powerful prayer from Jacob in Genesis 32:12 — a verse that captures what it means to cling to God’s promises when fear and uncertainty start to rise.
“But you said, ‘I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.’” — Genesis 32:12 (NIV)
Jacob prayed these words when he was facing one of the most terrifying moments of his life — meeting his brother Esau after years of conflict and deceit. He was unsure of what awaited him, but instead of running away, Jacob (who is showing incredible personal and spiritual growth) reminded God (and himself) of the promise spoken over his life.
This is more than a prayer; it’s a declaration of faith. It’s a reminder that when we face uncertainty, we don’t have to rely on what we see — we can stand on what God has said.
TIP: When you write this prayer for you, it is okay to change it to make it personal to what God is speaking over you.
Example: (and my personal prayer)
Lord, you said, ‘I will surely make you prosper and will make your blessings like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.’”
✨ Declare It Daily
This week, I want to encourage you to write this verse down and recite it every day.Let it become a declaration — a bold reminder that God’s promises still stand.
Every time you say it, imagine yourself stepping into His promise, not with fear, but with confidence that the same God who provided for Jacob will provide for you too.
Here’s how to personalize it:
“God, You promised to make me fruitful and to prosper me according to Your will. You are faithful to keep every word You’ve spoken. I trust You with what’s ahead.”
Keep this prayer somewhere visible — on your mirror, in your journal, or as a reminder on your phone — and speak it until your heart believes it.
🌿 This Week’s Affirmations
Meditate on these affirmations each morning or as you go about your day. Let them shape your thoughts and steady your spirit:
✨ God’s blessing goes where I go.
✨ My next step is guided by His purpose.
✨ I trust God as my Provider and Protector.
You’re not walking into this week alone — you’re walking in promise, guided by grace, and covered by His presence.
✍🪴 Journal & Reflect
Take time this week to sit with God and reflect on these questions. Let the Holy Spirit speak to you as you write:
1️⃣ Where in your life do you sense God inviting you into a new season, even if it feels uncomfortable?
2️⃣ In what ways have you depended on people (like Jacob and Laban) instead of trusting God as your Provider?
3️⃣ What practical “nextstep” can you take this week toward the future God is calling you into?
💛 Final Encouragement
When Jacob prayed in Genesis 32:12, he wasn’t strong — he was scared. But he chose faith over fear by declaring God’s promises. You can do the same.
Whatever lies ahead, remember: God’s word still stands. His promises still hold. And His blessings go wherever you go.
Keep declaring it, 522Gal — your confidence isn’t in what’s changing around you, but in the One who never changes.
