How to Find the Right Church (and Why It Still Matters)

You’ve probably seen it—someone posting, “I haven’t been to church in years, but I want to find one again.” Maybe that someone is you.

If it is, I want you to know how proud I am of you. 💛 Because deciding to seek out a church again means your spirit is craving connection, and friend, that’s a beautiful thing.

We were never meant to walk this faith journey alone.

Church Isn’t Perfect—Because People Aren’t

Let’s be real: church hurt is real. If you’ve been around church for any length of time, you’ve probably seen the good, the bad, and the super ugly.

I get it—I’m a pastor’s kid. I’ve seen behind the curtain, and let’s just say… people can be messy. But here’s the truth: church is made up of imperfect people trying to follow a perfect Savior.

That means you’re going to encounter flaws, misunderstandings, and moments that test your patience. But guess what? You’re also going to find love, encouragement, and community that will strengthen your faith.

Don’t let someone’s imperfection make you miss out on God’s intention for your life.

You’re Called to Community

You might be thinking, “I’m good—it’s just me and Jesus.” And honestly, I’ve been there too. After growing up in church, I went through a season where I thought I didn’t need it anymore.

But here’s what I learned on the other side: God didn’t create us to do life alone.

He calls us to gather—to worship together, to learn together, and to grow together. Even in the Old Testament, the people of Israel built a temple because they recognized the importance of having a place to worship and connect.

Church today might not look like the book of Acts, and that’s okay. We’re doing the best we can in this time, in this culture, and that still matters.

What to Look for When You’re Finding a Church

I’ve seen a lot of posts that say, “Find a Bible-believing church.” And yes, that’s important. But here’s the thing—most churches will tell you they’re Bible-believing!

So what should you really look for?

Find a church that prays. When life gets hard (and it will), you’ll want to be surrounded by people who will pray with you and for you. Whether it’s after service or during worship, prayer is what connects us to God and to one another.

Find a church that fits your needs. Maybe you need a strong children’s program, a women’s Bible study, or worship that truly connects your heart to God. That’s not being picky—that’s being intentional.

Find a church that helps you grow. Look for a place that challenges you to become who you were created to be. Church isn’t about staying the same—it’s about transformation.

Don’t Judge—Just Journey

One thing I’ve noticed is how often we criticize styles of worship or how other churches do things. Some people love a modern worship concert vibe. Others love an old-school hymnal and piano.

Here’s the truth: neither one is wrong.

If a certain worship style doesn’t connect with you, that’s fine! Just move on graciously and find where you do connect. The goal isn’t to find the “perfect” church—it’s to find a place where your soul is fed and your faith flourishes.

Keep Going Until You Find Home

If you don’t find the right fit on your first visit, don’t give up. Ask God to guide you. Pray for direction. Try again.

There’s a church family out there that’s waiting to welcome you. They might not be perfect (spoiler: they’re not), but neither are we. And that’s okay, because God uses our imperfections to teach us grace, patience, and love.

When you find your place—a church that worships, prays, and grows together—you’ll feel it. You’ll know. And that connection? It will change your spiritual life.

Be You, Bear Fruit 🍍

Friend, don’t let fear, hurt, or frustration keep you from the blessings of community. You’re called to connection. You’re called to growth. You’re called to love—flawed people and all.

So go find your church home. Pray. Connect. Commit. Grow.

And remember: being a 522Gal means letting the fruit of the Spirit shine in every area of your life—including your faith community.
